The Future of Barristers – overcoming present obstacles: Manchester University Law Society

It is our pleasure to invite you to ‘The Future of Barristers – overcoming present obstaclesevent, organised in collaboration with the Justice Hub. This event is a follow up to the Statement issued by the Pro Bono Society, Manchester University Law Society and the Bar and Advocacy Society earlier in this academic year. 

 

The event will take place on Monday the 7th of November at the Justice Hub Boardroom from 17:00 to 19:00

 

The topics covered by the presentations of our speakers include the impact of Dominic Raab’s comments regarding barristers and the strikes on practising barristers. Our panellists will also discuss in more detail about their practice areas and a typical day in their lives, as well as their views on the future of the profession. There will be Q&A opportunities throughout the event after each speaker, as well as a networking session at the end. 

 

The schedule will be as follows: 

 

17:00 – Welcome and Introductions 

 

17:05 – Ciara Bartlam – practising barrister at Garden North Chambers with an area of expertise in inquests & public inquiries, and Public Law, specialised in representing bereaved families with passed loved ones. 

 

17:20 – Lily Lewis – practising barrister at Garden North Chambers with an area of expertise in civil actions against the police & public authorities, housing & homelessness, immigration and asylum, inquests & public inquiries and Public law. 

 

17:35 – Rosalind Burgin – practising barrister at Garden North Chambers with an area of expertise in criminal defence & appeals, judicial review, discrimination law and housing & homelessness.

 

17:55 – General Q&A 

 

18:10 – Networking session 

 

Alcoholic and non-alcoholic options will be available at the event, so please feel free to come and join us after a lecture or seminar!
